direction.

I combine deep network expertise with commercial judgement to help operators, virtual network businesses and major enterprises make technology, M&A and AI decisions that create business value.

Martin GuilfoyleFounder. Technology leader. Commercial advisor.
DEEP NETWORK EXPERIENCE. A COMMERCIAL POINT OF VIEW.How I can help

01 / A PRACTICAL PERSPECTIVE

Engineering judgement. Commercial perspective.

Deep technology.
Commercial judgement.
Connected thinking.

I bridge network providers, mobile virtual network operators and enablers (MVNOs and MVNEs), major enterprises and the people making investment decisions.

A career through the evolution from 1G to 5G has taught me how infrastructure choices shape products, operating models and the economics of a business.

I bring that perspective to M&A, network integration and applied AI: understanding the technical detail, testing the commercial case and defining a practical path from opportunity to delivery.

01

Understand the technology.Architecture, dependencies and delivery.

02

See the business.Connect technical choices to cost, growth and value.

03

Make change executable.Turn deal or product strategy into a delivery plan.

02 / HOW I CAN HELP

Technology, transactions and transformation.

The experience you need.
At the stage you need it.

  • Network architecture & migration
  • MVNO, MVNE & enterprise connectivity
  • Build, buy & partner assessment
04 / APPLIED AI & COMMERCIALISATION

Turn AI into measurable value

Connect AI capability to a business problem: better project delivery, stronger quality assurance or a new wireless service. Shape the workflow, architecture and commercial model, then prove the benefit.

  • AI-assisted project management & quality assurance
  • AI-RAN wireless & edge service opportunities
  • Pilot design, service economics & commercialisation

03 / APPLIED AI & COMMERCIALISATION

Useful outcomes. Measurable economics.

Make AI
earn its place.

Better delivery. Stronger assurance. Services customers will pay for.

My network and M&A experience shapes how I assess AI: start with a measurable business problem, understand the technology and design a capability people can operate and pay for.

01 / PROJECT MANAGEMENT

Make delivery
more predictable.

Use AI to connect plans, progress updates and delivery data: surface dependencies, flag emerging risks and prepare evidence-based status reports, with accountable project owners.

VALUE TO PROVE

Less reporting effort.
Earlier intervention.

Measure Reporting hours, forecast accuracy and milestone reliability.

02 / QUALITY ASSURANCE

Build confidence
into every release.

Apply AI to requirements-to-test traceability, test design and defect triage. Prioritise regression testing and analyse failures, while keeping release acceptance with engineering and QA.

VALUE TO PROVE

Shorter validation cycles.
Less avoidable rework.

Measure Defect escape rate, review effort and time to a validated release.

03 / AI-RAN WIRELESS

Connect intelligence
to network value.

Assess where AI can improve wireless performance, shared compute can make economic sense and edge AI can solve an enterprise problem. Connect operator capability to a clear buyer and service model.

VALUE TO PROVE

Better network economics.
A credible service proposition.

Measure Performance per watt, compute utilisation and service margin.

AI-RAN & THE NETWORK EDGE

Three opportunities.
A business case for each.

I bridge the radio network, compute infrastructure and enterprise application. The starting point is to distinguish improving the network, sharing its infrastructure and delivering AI services through it.

AI for RAN

Use AI to improve radio operation, capacity or energy efficiency. Establish a baseline and validate performance under realistic network load.

AI and RAN

Assess sharing compute between radio and AI workloads. Model utilisation, power and workload isolation while protecting radio service requirements.

AI on RAN

Shape AI services at the network edge for an identified enterprise need. Define workload placement, connectivity, service levels, the buyer and pricing.

Place intelligence where it creates value: on the device, at an enterprise site, at the network edge or in the cloud. Assess latency, data location, security, compute cost and the responsibilities of each partner.

FROM A USEFUL PILOT TO A REPEATABLE OFFER

Prove the benefit.
Build the business around it.

Commercialisation starts with who benefits, who pays and what it costs to deliver. I help connect a working capability to an internal operating model or a customer-facing service.

  1. 01

    Define the baseline

Choose a workflow or buyer problem. Record today's cost, effort, quality and performance.

  2. 02

    Run a focused pilot

Agree success measures and compare results with the baseline, including integration and review effort.

  3. 03

    Make it repeatable

Define data access, human review, service ownership, support and how the capability fits daily work.

  4. 04

    Make the economics work

Set out the buyer, pricing, delivery costs, partner model and the evidence needed to scale.

04 / NETWORK APIs & SLICING

Specialist advice. A practical route forward.

Make network capabilities
work for your business.

I help you decide where network APIs and slicing can create value, how they fit your architecture, and what to prove before you commit.

Network APIs

Connect a useful network capability to a real application.

01

Find the use cases that matter

Assess opportunities such as number verification, SIM-swap risk signals, location checks and Quality on Demand. Match each to the buyer's problem and available operator coverage.

02

Design the integration

Shape a CAMARA-aligned API architecture: exposure, aggregation, authorisation, consent and application integration. Clarify what your team, the operator and any intermediary need to deliver.

03

Build a credible pilot plan

Define test cases, integration effort, usage costs and success measures. Establish what the pilot needs to demonstrate before a wider rollout.

Network slicing

Translate application needs into a service the network can support.

01

Decide whether a slice is justified

Assess performance, coverage, device support and isolation requirements. Compare slicing with standard connectivity, Quality on Demand and private-network options.

02

Shape the end-to-end service

Work through radio, transport, core and edge dependencies, device onboarding and orchestration. Map the application requirement to an operator's supported service.

03

Define delivery and assurance

Set out provisioning, admission, lifecycle management and service measures. Agree what is monitored, who owns each responsibility and how the pilot will be accepted.

A FOCUSED ENGAGEMENT CAN GIVE YOU

A use-case shortlist. An architecture.
A pilot plan and a clear decision.

Discuss APIs & slicing

The starting point is feasibility: which capabilities are available, to whom, and on what terms. Operator access, devices, coverage and service commitments need to be confirmed for each project.

05 / POSSIBILITIES IN PRACTICE

ILLUSTRATIVE CONCEPT

Start with a need.
Connect the pieces.

Examples of the questions I can help you assess, design and test with the relevant network partners.

THE BUSINESS NEED

The event is live.
The connection needs to keep up.

A production team needs predictable uplink performance for a live broadcast, at a specific location and time.

Broadcast teamEvent windowUplink priority
01

Assess & qualify

Find participating networks with suitable coverage, service profiles and availability for the venue.

02

Design & agree

Define the available quality profile, integration, event window and service terms with the provider.

03

Pilot & measure

Test Quality on Demand where available; measure uplink performance, session acceptance and service status.

A measured pilot shows whether the available service meets the production team’s needs.

Illustrative applications. API access, slice availability and performance depend on the operator, market, device and agreed service. Quality on Demand does not inherently require a dedicated slice.
